Description: THETA is a registered Ugandan non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the health of Ugandans by promoting collaboration between the traditional and biomedical health systems. THETA has been operational for the past 16years in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Uganda AIDS Commission, universities and several civil society organizations. THETA has had programs in over 20 districts of Uganda where it has been able to test and demonstrate the validity of its approach.

THETA is seeking a qualified, self-motivated and competent individual to fill the position of: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Category: Administrative and Support Services
Term of service: Contract
Duty station: Kampala
Reports to: Chairperson, Board of Trustees (BOT)
Supervises: Program Coordinator and all THETA Department Managers

Purposes of the position:
1. To provide strategic leadership, vision, direction and guidance to THETA organization
2. To ensure the harmonious and successful development of THETA organisation based on
good governance and a secure funding base
3. To represent THETA at national and international fora, with governments, donors and other key stakeholders

Requirements
• Dynamic and strong leader with high self-esteem and open to innovation
• Excellent knowledge, skills and demonstrated experience in strategic planning and
organizational development
• Excellent skills in team building, communication, delegation, conflict resolution, and capacity building
• Quick problem-solving and a results-driven attitude
• Strong skills in supporting and advocating for community health rights
• Good knowledge of district and community structures in Uganda and demonstrated experience in interacting and collaborating with
government departments, specifically the Ministry of Health
• Strong skills in building and maintaining donor relationships
• Excellent grant proposal writing skills

Qualifications and Experience
• Masters Degree in Public Health, Business Administration, Public Administration, or
equivalent
• Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB), Doctor of Medicine (MD) with public health training, Social Work and Social Administration, Development Studies or Social Studies
• Minimum of 5 years working experience in the field of HIV/AIDS at senior managerial or technical level
• Minimum of 5 years project organizational management experience with good knowledge of participatory management techniques.

Job Title: National Program Manager: Health and Social Protection

Location: Kampala

Reports to: Country Director/Deputy Country Director

SUMMARY:

The National Program Manager for Health and Social Protection is the technical focal person for all health, HIV, OVC and gender programming for Samaritan’s Purse in Uganda. He/she will provide technical and managerial oversight to projects and is responsible for the overall quality of programming in this sector.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ensure that all projects in the sector are of satisfactory quality and comply with national and international standards

2. Ensure timely implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all activities

3. Ensure that relevant epidemiologic data is collected, analyzed and used to guide project implementation

4. Identify funding opportunities and work with Project Managers to develop funding proposals

5. Develop the sector program budgets

6. Provide capacity building for sector staff

7. Develop overall Health and Social Protection strategy for SP Uganda

8. Provide technical representation for sector programming with donors, agencies and Government departments

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in recruitment of sector project staff, supervise and manage Project Managers, while managing their performance reviews.

SKILLS: The successful candidate must possess excellent planning and organizational skills, excellent communication skills – both verbal and written, good data collection and analysis skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office including word, excel and power point, innovation and problem solving skills and strong leadership skills.


TECHNICAL SKILLS:

H/she must have experience in at least two of the following programming areas:

1. HIV

2. Vulnerable Children

3. Public Health

4. Economic strengthening of vulnerable populations

PERSONAL QUALITIES:

H/she must be personable, empathetic and flexible

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. A Masters in Public Health (MPH) or other related field
2. Minimum of 8 to 10 years’ related work experience in public health or social protection of which 5 years of management experience.
