The following positions are available at the National Council for Higher Educations with immediate effect. Interested persons are called upon to apply in writing to the Council. All the positions are on contract terms, renewal on good performance and mutual agreement. These positions were advertised in the new
vision of 23 August 2010. The advert below super-cedes the previous.
Position 1: Senior Higher Education Officer,
Quality Assurance (Sciences)
Qualifications:
i) This is a senior position in the Secretariat of the National council for Higher Education. It requires enormous knowledge and experience in curriculum design, Quality Assurance maintenance and design;
ii) A Ph.D in Sciences, though a Masters degree will be considered.
iii) At least five years experience in teaching Science based disciplines in a University setting.
iv) Must have a brilliant record of research and publications in own discipline;
v) Experience in Science curriculum design, formation and implementation will be a required experience.
vi) Administrative experience as Dean, Head of Department, Quality Assurance or Research are necessary requirements
The duties of this Officer will include;
i) Reporting to the head, Quality Assurance Department, NCHE, the appointed person will be in charge of designing policy options for sciences programs programmes and institutions;
ii) Will participate in the accreditation of programmes and institutions;
iii) Will help in setting a national Quality Assurance mechanism;
iv) Take leadership in Science curriculum design, reform and implementation in universities and other tertiary institutions which deliver these disciplines;
v) Carry out any other task assigned by the Executive Director of the National Council for Higher Education.
Position 2: Legal Officer
Qualifications
i) A Masters degree in law from a recognized university and a diploma in legal practice obtained from the LDC.
ii) Other postgraduate qualifications will be added advantages.
iii) Working experience in higher education or related fields will be an added advantage.
iv) Enrollment as an advocate of High Court of Uganda will be an added advantage
v) A sound knowledge of ICT is a requirement.
Duties and responsibilities will be to:
i) Interpret to management and the Council, the provisions of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act No 7 of 2001 and any other laws that have a bearing on the work of NCHE.
ii) Liaise with the office of the Solicitor General on all legal matters.
iii) Periodically review and propose amendments to statutory instruments of NCHE.
iv) Formulate contract and agreement documents between NCHE and other parties.
v) Receive and evaluate all legal documents submitted to the NCHE.
vi) Develop and write legal memoranda and statements as may be directed by the Executive Director and the Council.
vii) Scrutinize the legal implications of communications that go and come to NCHE
viii) Perform any other tasks assigned by Executive Director.
Remuneration
The National Council for Higher Education pays an attractive consolidated package comparable to those of other statutory agencies.
